Are you a GMC owner? Do you find yourself in need of a remote start app? The good news is that GMC does offer a remote start app, but the question is – is it free?

What is the GMC Remote Start App?

The GMC Remote Start App allows you to remotely start your vehicle from your smartphone. It’s available for both iOS and Android devices and can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.

How Does the GMC Remote Start App Work?

To use the GMC Remote Start App, you must first have an active subscription to OnStar. OnStar is a subscription-based service that provides various features such as emergency services, vehicle diagnostics, and remote start.

Once you have an active OnStar subscription, you can download and log in to the GMC Remote Start App. From there, you can start your vehicle remotely by pressing the “Remote Start” button within the app.

Is the GMC Remote Start App Free?

Unfortunately, the GMC Remote Start App is not free. As mentioned earlier, it requires an active OnStar subscription which comes at a cost.

The OnStar subscription pricing starts at $14.99 per month for the “Safe & Sound” plan which includes features like automatic crash response and roadside assistance. However, if you want access to remote start as well as other features like stolen vehicle assistance and turn-by-turn navigation, you’ll need to opt for one of their higher tier plans which can cost up to $39.99 per month.

Are There Any Alternatives?

If you’re not interested in paying for an OnStar subscription just for remote start access, there are some third-party apps that offer similar functionality at no cost.

One such app is “MyChevrolet” which allows Chevy owners to remotely start their vehicle as well as lock/unlock doors and check tire pressure all from their smartphone. The app is free to download and use, but it does require an active OnStar subscription as well.

Another option is the “Viper SmartStart” app which offers remote start and other features like GPS tracking and vehicle status updates. The app requires a Viper SmartStart module installed in your vehicle which can be purchased separately. The module and app combo can cost around $300, but there are no ongoing subscription fees.

In summary, the GMC Remote Start App is not free. It requires an active OnStar subscription which can cost anywhere from $14.99 to $39.99 per month depending on the plan you choose. However, there are some third-party alternatives that offer similar functionality at no cost or with a one-time purchase fee.
